The Counseling Program at AMS

School counselors are uniquely skilled professionals who provide a holistic perspective to education. We facilitate growth and learning in our students by: establishing positive relationships and connections, teaching inter and intra personal skills, advocating on behalf of students, fostering positive school climate, providing healthy role models, serving as change agents

We provide specific services in the four areas of: counseling, curriculum delivery, consultation and coordination. We work with students individually and in small groups, listening to their concerns and helping them to learn strategies to be successful in school both academically and socially. We provide classroom guidance in the areas of conflict management, educational and career preparation and other relevant topics as needed. We are also available for consultation to parents. Counselors at Auburn Middle School work closely with the deans of students.

Students are encouraged to:

• accept each other despite differences to resolve conflict peaceably
• to work together.
• respect their own efforts and abilities by making responsible choices
• to work toward achieving personal goals, both academically and socially.
• We invite you to share in this emphasis on our core values by stressing their importance at home. Your continuing support of your student's challenges and achievements is, as you know, of utmost value.
• It is our belief that by having parents and school staff work together on behalf of each student there is a great opportunity for student success.
